The Pilates Academy teaches functional, contemporary pilates in an intimate, small group setting. We also offer Yoga classes and private one:one lessons for those seeking even more personalised attention - this is particularly necessary for clients requiring rehabilitation or who have been referred by a chiropractor, GP or physiotherapist.

The Pilates Academy is a Private Studio dedicated to small group classes and personal pilates training. We are located in the Northern beachside suburb of Iluka.

All clients must first undertake two private sessions: the first session is a functional one-to-one assessment and the second; a private class covering the basic pilates principles and exercises. Private classes can be booked during available times outside set group-classes.

The studio operates Monday to Friday. We do not offer any weekend classe.s

What to expect

Following an intial assessment you may continue with private bookings or join a small group class. Our mat-based classes are taught may incorporate a variety of small props to challenge your stability, strength and provide kinesthetic feedback. All classes will be taught by Terri Hinch; an experienced and accredited instructor who holds a Diploma in Professional Pilates Instruction. This is the highest qualification currently avilable in the Pilates Industry and is recognised worldwide.

All classes involve lots of hands-on correction to make sure you are working properly. Each class lasts for 55 minutes. Full details are on our timetable page.

What to wear

  • Comfortable clothes that won't restrict your movement but enable the instructor to 'see' what your muscles are doing.
  • Bring your own exercise mat and a towel (it's a little unhygienic to share mats)
  • We recommend you do not eat a large meal for at least 2 hours before class.

Who is it Pilates for?

  • Anyone committed to improving their total fitness, posture and appearance. All ages, all sizes.
  • People seeking a non-aerobic style of gaining long, lean muscle without the bulk.
  • Professional sportspersons seeking advanced conditioning programs to enhance performance.
  • Mild back pain sufferers (this is not rehabilitative Pilates).
  • Those wishing to release the physical stress in their lives by releasing the physical stress in their body.

Instructor's Profile

Principal Instructor: Terri Hinch

 

Terri is a Certified Practitioner of Pilates Studio and mat work. She holds a Diploma in Pilates Professional Pilates Instruction and Pilates Matwork. She completed her training courses with well renowned training organizations such as US/Australian based Polestar Pilates, Swiss/Australian training organisation art-of-motion; Pilates International as well as The Pilates Institute (Australia). She has been teaching Pilates for more than 10 years.

Her own background in classical ballet, ballroom, weight training and Ashtanga yoga, provide a thorough understanding of physical movement and the benefits of achieving a balance between strength and flexibility. As a mother of two, she can speak personally about the benefits of Pilates before and throughout pregnancy, and is also an experienced teacher in this field. Through the establishment of her business, The Pilates Academy 2000, Terri has brought her extensive experience together in an integrated approach to Pilates that will change the way you feel about your body, and your body feels about you. She is a firm believer in educating her clients and has a great passion for helping others to help themselves.

Terri also lectures for art-of-motion www.art-of-motion.com.au and is a registered provider for various health funds. She holds a GradDip. Business, BA English
